The Ethiopian Women for Peace and Development (EWPD) Joins Amnesty International’s Write for Right Campaign for Ms Birtukan Mideksa

The Ethiopian Women for Peace and Development is working with Amnesty International for the release of Ms. Birtukan Mideksa, a political party leader and a political prisoner in Ethiopia.  Amnesty International launched a Write for Right campaign for the release of Ms. Birtukan Mideksa in November 2009. Please address letters to Birtukan Mideksa in care of the Ethiopian Women for Peace and Development address in the USA;   P.O.Box 1318, Wheaton, MD 20915 , USA.

To date, we have received over 15,000 cards and letters written to Birtukan Mideksa.  The letters have come from all over the world including Canada, Greece, Italy, Sweden, Israel, United Kingdom, and United States (including New Hampshire, Alaska, North Carolina, and California.)  They were written by variety of people including school children and individuals from different faiths. They have also come from members of peace and human rights organizations. The pictures below show just some of the letters.

We thank everyone who has taken their time to write the letters supporting Birtukan Mideksa’s courageous stand for peaceful struggle to realize democracy and the respect of human rights in Ethiopia.
